I started in the industry back in 1997 and completed my Master of Business Administration at Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah in 2001 while working for a well-known national financial services company.  In the past 18 years I have been fortunate to work with many great mentors and learn at a deep level how different firms work for their clients.  At Nationwide Financial, I was in a position to compare financial systems used by many firms in my role as a wholesaler.  That perspective gained from seeing behind the scenes at all the top broker dealers, banks and insurance companies led me to my current position and allows me to clearly translate the often complex jargon of the industry into simple English.   During my tenure at US Bancorp, I had the opportunity to oversee the insurance operations for the entire Oregon market.  Seeking to reduce my business travel in 2005, I returned to one of the nation’s largest mutual fund and financial service companies in their Private Client Group working in the Portland office serving about 450 families representing a total net worth of over 1.2 billion dollars.

Now, in joining Cross Financial Management, my vision is to bring the weight of my experience and the support of LPL Financial to benefit my clients.  As a CFP® professional I am ethically bound and have taken an oath to always put my client’s interests first, a designation held since 2008.  Additionally, as a registered representative I hold my Series 7 broker’s registration as well as my 9/10 supervisory registration, which are both held through LPL Financial.   One of the strengths of working with Cross Financial and LPL is having the support for all the designations and credentials aligned for the benefit of helping any potential client need. My early interest in the financial services industry goes so far back that it’s difficult to pinpoint.  In high school I had a great teacher who taught resource utilization and urban planning.  I think that was what started me on this career path and the funny thing is that the city we built in that class was a miniature version of Portland. Although I’ve worked in nearly every corner of the brokerage business, I much prefer helping people face to face.  The best part of working for an independent firm like Cross Financial is the freedom to fully leverage a world class partner in LPL Financial while focusing deeply on a select group of clients.  It’s the one-on-one relationship with my clients that makes the job truly rewarding.

I stay on top of financial events through professional journals like the FPA as well as programmed text alerts from Seeking Alpha and Bloomberg.  I also subscribe to several blogs.  With today’s fast moving markets, most of the feeds I read are online.  My iPhone, iPad and computer are rarely out of reach.  I stay up-to-date and I believe that helps put me in a great position to help my clients. When I’m not at the office, I am involved in just about everything the beautiful Columbia Gorge has to offer!  My wife, Marnie, and I have three kids: son Kai and daughters Piper and Eden.  We also have a dog named Zephyr who does not move like he’s named, and his companion Pumpkin the cat who is an excellent mouse trap.  We enjoy a lot of activities and may be seen playing hockey, windsurfing, golfing, kayaking, mountain biking, snowboarding or even playing tennis.   I volunteer with the Portland Junior Winterhawks hockey club as a volunteer coach and have served on the board for several years.  Marnie and I have a passion for service and have been previously been involved with Catalyst Partnerships in Beaverton since its inception in 2007.  We  have been delighted to see the growth and success of this organization, continue to support the mission of the group, and welcome others to find the true gift of giving back.
